Genocide Memorials, Rwanda

About:

Following our award-winning rehabilitation of the Mburabuturo University, we were appointed to design and procure memorials at three sites where respectively 5,000, 26,000 and 40,000 people were killed during the 1994 genocide in Rwanda.

Our proposals developed in close consultation with survivors and families of those killed as well as other interested parties. The designs include mass grave ‘name walls’, gardens of remembrance and educational displays. The sites complement the National Genocide Memorial Centre in illustrating the origins and consequences of the genocide, contributing to national unity and reconciliation across the country.
