Long Lane, Southwark

About:

This scheme, located on a highly constrained site to the edge of the Kipling Estate near London Bridge, provides 21 new affordable homes for social rent along with a small new shop unit.

The housing is designed to be of a standard that is comparable with, or even exceeds, the quality of much of London’s current private housing offer. This includes fully accessible homes notable for their size. The new homes sit within two new buildings that are conceived as a pair of solid masses wrapped in a dark brickwork with cuts ‘carved’ into the mass. Expressed through lighter brickwork, these are seen in the balcony, circulation, and entrance spaces. A new communal courtyard sits at the heart of the scheme, providing residents with high quality amenity and play space.
