Our Response to the Housing & Planning Bill 2015

If approved, the Housing and Planning Bill will have a significant impact on housing across the country, and not necessarily for the better. We welcome the fact that the government are putting housing high on their agenda, but we have a number of concerns about the measures proposed in this bill.

Our response to the Public Committee outlines these issues and makes some suggestions for improvements, most specifically:

  • Protecting the status of starter homes as affordable housing in perpetuity
  • Giving equal emphasis to the building of new homes for older people
  • Limiting Right to Buy and ensuring one-for-one replacement of bedspaces not dwellings
