Angel Meadows, Manchester

This is our competition entry with Piercy Connor Architects and Whitby Bird, to design a mixed-use scheme which promotes co-operative lifestyles on a 2.2 hectare brownfield site on the edge of Manchester City Centre. Our solution creates a new urban model that provides a stimulating physical environment, responsive to its urban context and providing new opportunities for people to live a greener lifestyle.

A central green corridor connects neighbouring open spaces that have been converted to recreation and urban agriculture areas. This eventually leads to a new land bridge linking to the city centre beyond. Diverse work and living spaces are designed to enable small incubator enterprises or individuals to develop in the community. The environmental energy strategy includes combined heat and power (CHP), bio-fuels, renewable energy and social strategies.
