As we are in the Detail Studio – and are therefore enthusiastic for all things technical – we spent yesterday visiting Innovare Factory in Coventry, a company specialised in Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs). We had the opportunity to watch the fabrication process and saw that SIPs seem to be a great alternative to metal stud. Some key benefits are:

- Carbon sequestering
- Large format panels
- Reduced installation time
- Good U-values and airtightness
- 3-4 storeys achievable without need of additional load-bearing structure
- Flexibility, multiple configurations, easy to assemble and disassemble.

It was great to see SIPs manufactured up close and get a better understanding of this sustainable technology as we use these more in the future.
