It was great to speak at EcoBuild yesterday and share my views about the future of the profession. Given that today is International Women’s Day, I was delighted that four of six panellists were women, and apparently this wasn’t deliberately engineered to make a gender statement!
I spoke about the housing affordability crisis and the complete disconnect between house prices and income levels, whilst breaking down how much of that is down to high land values. I explained how community led housing can begin to address this issue, as well as called on public authorities to look to cities like Zurich, where they no longer sell public land for speculative development, but rather, lease it at affordable rates over long time periods to community led developers.
