Planning permission has been secured for 79 affordable homes at Wembley Central for Network Homes. Brent Council gave the green light for the development, which will be located at the corner of Wembley High Road and St John’s Road, at a planning committee meeting last week.
The new homes will replace a former office block with an 18-storey building containing a mixture of one, two and three bedroom homes, 100% of which will be affordable. Each home is designed to be naturally ventilated to avoid the need for cooling and nearly all are dual aspect. Homes also have oversized balconies linked to the living rooms to provide good quality outdoor space. This will all be delivered alongside 167sqm of commercial space on the ground floor, and communal spaces for residents at upper levels.
David Gooch, Network Homes Director of Development, said: “We’re pleased to be pushing forward with this development bringing quality new homes to the heart of Wembley. It is also 100% affordable which helps us fulfil our strategic objective of increasing the number of homes for people in housing need.”
The building design draws on the historic proportions of buildings on the surrounding streets and takes inspiration from the materials found in the area. In addition, public realm improvements will link the building into the high street.
