After some months of site closure, it has been exciting to see landscape works underway once more at Bartlett Park in LB Tower Hamlets. Despite current slightly arid conditions and temporary fencing, bedded plants and trees are looking healthy and the sowed wildflower seeds are now in full colour.
Canal side footings are going in, ready for stepped granite block seating, ramp and access steps – a complete overhaul to a newly pedestrianised Cotall Street and integrated Limehouse Cut canal towpath. This area of the park in particular will become a focus of activity based on the relationship between the wider park, existing Poplar Union Café, flagship inclusive playground, pedestrianised street and Limehouse Cut Canal. Activities here include a new pontoon for kayaking, proposed market stalls and talk of a floating cinema screen on canal boat viewed from the new granite block seating down to the canal.
Pending works include completion of Cotall Street and canal side, the installation of a new pre-fab changing room for the football pitches and a ‘phase 4’ adventure play area and natural education space.
