Last week I attended the 'Social Housing – Definitions and Design Exemplars' exhibition at the RIBA on Portland Place, which explored public housing projects from the UK and Europe. The exhibition was a fascinating showcase that demonstrated what can be achieved in social housing even with the tightest of budgets and most restricted of sites. The 24 projects on show were wide ranging and far-reaching, and will likely play an active role in shaping what social housing looks like in the 21st century by using architecture's ability to create communities and bring people together.
