Over the last two months, some friends and I have been scribbling/prototyping/fundraising with London-based charity ‘Carnaval del Pueblo’ to design a community built Carnaval float for London’s New Year’s Day Parade!
This Saturday 11th of November as well as Saturday 24th of November, we are running a free weaving workshop in the Elephant and Castle Shopping Centre, inviting the public to create a giant tapestry for the float's façade. We will deconstruct the recycled plastic inflatables built by teenagers in Cambridge at our last workshop and use them as ‘yarn’ for the big weave, along with other materials, in London College of Communication’s space on the first floor of the shopping centre. Above and below are some images of the current float design and there is more info about the project on our GoFundMe page.
Please feel free to drop by if you are in the area, or if you know anyone with amazing weaving talents who may be interested in getting involved, then please do pass this on.
