Haberdashers' Monmouth Schools Dining Hall, Monmouth

About:

As part of delivering the wider Monmouth School vision, this project is to enlarge the existing dining hall at the Boy's School to accommodate the increase in student numbers. This proposal extends the existing building with minimal demolition whilst simultaneously improving the environmental performance and uplifting its appearance.

The development uses a single material palette to connect the new extension and existing building together, articulated through the craft and application of the single material. Additional insulation and the introduction of a passive ventilation strategy creates an improved thermal comfort internally.

The extensive flat roof has maximised the PV array to support the school’s decarbonisation plan, whilst the new roof hosts a green roof to support biodiversity and provides an aesthetic outlook onto the much-overlooked building.
