Sumner House and Flaxyard, a collaboration with East Architecture, forms part of the first phase of Southwark Council’s commitment to build 11,000 new homes before 2020, half of which will be for ‘local lettings’ to meet the housing needs of local residents, as part of a wider drive to deliver more affordable housing in the borough.
Sumner House will sensitively convert and extend a 1930s former school building located just behind Peckham High Street to provide 40 apartments and four townhouses, arranged around a new private courtyard space, featuring a new copper clad roof extension. An adjacent site, Flaxyard, will provide a further 111 affordable homes in two new urban blocks, located either side of a pedestrian street featuring a new children’s play space. A new, small building on the High Street will provide a further nine affordable homes above a new shop as part of the development.
Integrating a mixture of affordable and private sale homes to accommodate local housing needs.
