Alongside PRP Architects, we carried out a thorough review of design guidance for all types of specialised housing.
Rather than limiting our search to just older persons and supported housing – which together make up nearly 20% of current affordable housing stock – we have also looked at publications which deal with designing for a range of disabilities, ethnic, cultural and religious requirements, gypsy and traveller sites and the rehabilitation and/or conversion of existing stock.
The report identifies the most useful documents for each topic and provides a logical structure to a very complex field. We designed it to be kept up-to-date as a live navigational resource for designers and housing providers, and to directly inform the local standards framework.
Support was provided by the Homes and Communities Agency.
