It was a pleasure to be asked to give an architect’s insight into the new Monet & Architecture exhibition at the National Gallery, as part of Radio 4’s Front Row programme last week. The landmark show brings together almost 80 paintings, spanning 50 years and many from private collections not seen in public for decades. As the theme suggests, the exhibition explores Monet’s use of architecture, often almost depicted as landscape and barely visible, to trace the movement of light and shadow and to create different atmospheres. It is a truly wonderful collection and gives a new perspective on his work.
The exhibition is running until 29 July and you can listen to the Radio 4 discussion with myself and art critic, Jacky Klein, here.
