I am delighted to announce our appointment to lead a transformative masterplanning project that will reshape Liverpool's Pumpfields district.
This 75-acre site represents one of the most significant regeneration opportunities in Liverpool's recent history, and we are proud to be working alongside our partners Montagu Evans, Arup, and Turner Works to bring it to life.
Our appointment by Liverpool City Council comes at a crucial time, as the city embarks on an ambitious New Town Taskforce initiative. This wider programme aims to deliver 10,000 new homes across a 5km stretch from Liverpool city centre to Bootle and Sefton, with Pumpfields playing a vital role in this transformative vision.
Drawing on our practice's heritage in social value and community-focused design, we will develop a masterplan that prioritises:
What makes this project particularly exciting is its potential to reconnect and revitalise a long-overlooked area of Liverpool. Working closely with local stakeholders, we will develop a quality, place-based masterplan that not only meets immediate community needs but creates lasting value for generations to come.
This is more than just a masterplanning exercise - it's an opportunity to demonstrate how thoughtful, evidence-based design can transform urban communities. Our team brings together international experience and deep local knowledge, allowing us to develop practical solutions that respect Liverpool's unique character while embracing its future potential.
The resulting Supplementary Planning Document will provide a framework for sustainable, community-focused development that connects the Leeds Street corridor with north Liverpool. We're particularly focused on creating meaningful links between the Commercial District, Ten Streets, and Liverpool Waters, ensuring that Pumpfields becomes an integral part of the city's fabric.
We've already begun work on this exciting project, engaging with local stakeholders and analysing the area's unique characteristics. Our approach combines rigorous research with creative thinking, ensuring that every decision we make is grounded in both evidence and community needs.
This commission represents everything we value at Levitt Bernstein - the opportunity to create sustainable, inclusive communities while addressing critical housing needs. We look forward to working with Liverpool City Council and the local community to deliver a vision that will stand the test of time.
